Intra-oral scanning

Intraoral scan of a patient's maxillary arch, viewed from the chewing surface.
A scan of an upper jaw.

Our office leverages intra-oral scanning to capture impressions for many of our procedures. Using a camera on a wand that fits inside your mouth, thousands of pictures are stitched together to create a 3-dimensional surface scan of your teeth and the surrounding soft tissues.

This technology is highly accurate and is our primary means of capturing impressions for:

  • crowns
  • bridges
  • most fixed dental implant restorations

Patients prefer intraoral scanning because it does not require goop and tends to be a faster and more comfortable impression.

Intraoral scanning technology can also be used for longterm monitoring of tooth wear, movement, and erosion using specialized comparison software.

Digital scanning goes hand-in-hand with the laboratory fabrication methods of modern dentistry. Often, the laboratory will have received your case digitally before you get out of our parking lot.

One notable place where we do not use this technologys in denture fabrication. Good old fashioned goop still turns out the best result so that is what we use.
