What to expect after delivery of your mandibular advancement device

Caring for your MAD handout
How long does it take to get used to?
Most people get used to the device in a week or two; there is certainly an adjustment period. It is not uncommon to find yourself having taken the appliance out in the middle of the night, don't worry, just keep trying.
Is it normal to be a little sore?
Yes, slight soreness in the morning after removing the appliance is normal. This should go away within an hour and should decrease the longer your wear the device. If your pain is severe or you have difficulty opening or closing your jaw, stop using the device and come back and see us.
Do I have to come back for my follow-up?
We really like to have an in person follow-up to make sure that you are adapting well and getting results from your appliance. We also use this visit as an opportunity to send a follow-up letter to your sleep physician to let them know how you are doing.
