Caring for your hard occlusal appliance or retainer
How to use and take care of an appliance such as a retainer or occlusal appliance (also known as a nightguard, brux-guard).

- Unless specifically directed otherwise, wear your appliance every night.
- How do I clean it?
- Daily, you should rinse it well with warm (but not too hot) water and allow it to air dry. At least once a week you should give it a good clean with a denture brush and dishsoap. You can also use effervescent cleaners.
- Should I bring it to my dental appointment?
- Yes. At a routine cleaning we will clean it for you and make sure that it is still fitting well. If you need any work done, we will make sure that it still fits afterwards.
