Caring for and adapting to your dentures

Will I have sore spots?: Almost certainly. Every denture causes sore spots at some point. They are most common in the first week or two, but can show up at any time, and we can adjust the denture to relieve them.
Why do I need follow-up appointments?: We schedule every denture patient for a visit the day after their dentures are delivered, to take care of any early sore spots. If you're doing well, you're welcome to cancel it. We hold the time automatically so we're available if you need us.
These feel strange. Is that normal?: Yes. Dentures take time and patience to get used to, and it typically takes a new wearer about a year to fully master them. Even then, chewing ability is about 25% of what it was with a full set of healthy natural teeth.
Should I use denture adhesive?: If you need it. Our goal is a denture that doesn't need adhesive, but some mouths simply don't allow for strong suction, especially for lower dentures. In those cases, adhesive helps.
How do I clean them?: Rinse them throughout the day, especially after eating, to remove food. Once a day, scrub them with dish soap and a denture brush, or soak them in an effervescent denture cleaner. If you use a soak, still scrub them at least once a week to remove stains and stuck-on debris.
